Sign Maintenance, Repair and Safe Removal
Signs live outdoors in wind, rain and sun, and over time even well-made signs need attention. A fascia with half its lights out, a faded panel or a loose projecting sign makes a business look neglected, and a badly fixed sign can become a safety risk.
Our own team repairs, refurbishes and maintains existing signs, including many we did not make, and removes old signs safely when they are no longer needed.

Common problems we fix
- Lighting faults: failed LED modules, power supplies, timers and flickering illumination.
- Faded or cracked faces on lightboxes and panels, re-skinned with new vinyl or a new acrylic face.
- Damaged panels, dented trays and broken letters, repaired or replaced to match.
- Loose or corroded fixings on fascias, projecting signs and post signs.
- Water getting into illuminated signs, resealed to stop further damage.
Repair or replace?
Not every tired sign needs replacing. If the frame, tray or box is sound, a new face, fresh graphics or new LEDs can make it look and work like new for much less disruption. If the structure itself is corroded or the sign no longer suits your brand, replacement may be better value in the long run. We inspect the sign on a site visit and explain the options plainly, so you can decide.
Older fluorescent lightboxes can often be converted to LED lighting during a repair, which reduces power use and the number of parts that can fail.
Planned maintenance
For businesses with several signs or several sites, regular checks catch small problems before they become expensive. A planned visit can include cleaning faces and letters, checking fixings and brackets, testing lighting and timers, and noting anything that needs repair. Keeping signs clean also helps them last, since dirt and grime hold moisture against surfaces. Our sign maintenance and cleaning guide explains what you can do yourself between visits.
Safe sign removal
When a business moves out, rebrands or a landlord needs a frontage returned to its original condition, signs have to come down safely. We isolate any electrics, remove the sign with the right access equipment, take away the old materials and make good fixings where agreed. If the fascia underneath needs reinstating, we can plan that too; our guide to sign removal and shopfront reinstatement explains what is usually involved.
Working at height
Many repairs are high on a building or above a busy pavement. We bring suitable access equipment, from ladders and towers to powered access where needed, and plan the work so the area below is kept safe. Where a permit or pavement licence is needed for equipment on the public highway, we will tell you before the job is booked.
What to send us
A few photos of the sign, by day and, for lit signs, by night, help us understand the problem before we visit. Let us know the approximate size, how high it is and whether it is lit. If you still have the original drawings or know who made it, that is useful too, but not essential.
Sign Repair and Maintenance: Questions and Answers
Do you repair signs made by other companies?
Yes. We repair, refurbish and maintain many existing signs whoever made them, after inspecting them to check the structure and electrics are suitable to work on.
Can an old fluorescent lightbox be converted to LED?
In many cases, yes. If the box is sound, the old tubes and gear can be replaced with LED modules and a new power supply during the repair.
Will you make good the wall after removing a sign?
We can fill fixing holes and make good where agreed. For larger reinstatement work, such as repainting or replacing a fascia, we plan that as part of the job.
