Glass Manifestation for Offices, Schools and Public Buildings
Glass manifestation is the marking applied to glass doors, partitions and full-height screens so that people can see the glass is there. Without it, clear glazing can be almost invisible, especially in bright corridors or where the floor continues on both sides, and people can walk straight into it.
We survey your glazing, design manifestation that suits the building and fit it with our own team.

Why visibility markings matter
In England, Building Regulations Approved Document K covers protection from collision with glazing, and includes guidance on making large areas of critical glazing apparent. Other parts of the UK have their own equivalent guidance. This page is general information, not legal advice; your building owner, designer or health and safety adviser should confirm what your glazing needs.
Beyond the regulations, manifestation is simply good practice. Visitors, children, people with visual impairments and anyone carrying something or looking at a phone are all more likely to miss clear glass.
Styles of manifestation
- Dots and simple shapes in a continuous row, the most discreet option.
- Solid or graduated bands that run across a whole partition.
- Your logo or a pattern repeated along the glass, turning a requirement into branding.
- Frosted film for a calm etched-glass look, or printed film in brand colours.
Height and contrast
Approved Document K describes markings at two levels: one zone around adult eye level and a lower zone for children and wheelchair users. The marking also needs to stand out against what is seen through the glass, which is why a white or frosted design can disappear against a pale wall but read clearly against a dark corridor. We look at the view through each pane on the survey and suggest a design and colour that will be noticed from both sides.
Combining manifestation with privacy
In offices and meeting rooms, manifestation is often combined with a privacy band so one film does both jobs. A frosted band at seated eye level can carry a row of clear cut-out logos, and a slimmer band above gives the higher marking. Schools and public buildings often prefer brighter, simpler designs that are easy to replace if damaged.
Fitting
Film is cut to size in our own workshop, then applied on site with level lines matched across doors and side panels. Free design with photo-realistic mock-ups means you can see the manifestation on a photo of your own glass before it is cut.
Looking after manifestation
Manifestation film is durable but sits on surfaces that are cleaned often and sometimes knocked. Wiping with a soft cloth and a mild glass cleaner keeps it looking crisp; abrasive pads and scrapers should be kept away from the edges. If a pane is replaced, or a single section is damaged, we can cut matching film so the line stays continuous. When your organisation rebrands or reorganises rooms, manifestation can be removed and replaced with a new design, which makes it a practical choice for rented offices as well as owned buildings. Keeping a note of film type and colours makes future repairs straightforward.
Glass Manifestation: Questions and Answers
Is glass manifestation a legal requirement?
Building Regulations guidance, Approved Document K in England, expects large areas of critical glazing to be made apparent, and workplace safety rules also apply to glazing. Whether your particular glass needs it depends on the building and the glazing, so check with your building owner or adviser. We can then supply and fit suitable markings.
At what height should manifestation go?
Guidance describes two zones: one around adult eye level and a lower one for children and wheelchair users. We mark the exact heights on the mock-up so you can approve them before fitting.
