Van Signwriting and Lettering for Your Business Van

Van signwriting turns a plain van into a moving advert. With your name, logo, services and phone number on the sides and back, every job, every journey and every hour parked on a driveway helps people remember who you are.

Today, van signwriting is usually done with cut vinyl rather than paint. We design the layout around your van, cut the lettering and logos in our own workshop and apply them with our own team. Before cutting, we photograph and measure your van and show the layout on a photo-realistic mock-up, so you can check sizes, colours and spacing and make changes before anything is applied.

What to put on your van

  • Business name and logo, large enough to read from across the road.
  • Phone number, the detail people most often need, kept clear and easy to read.
  • Website or social media handle.
  • A short list of key services, ideally three or four.
  • Trade logos or memberships you are entitled to display.

Less is more

People usually see a van for a few seconds, often while it is moving. A layout that tries to list every service in small text tends to be ignored. We keep the hierarchy simple: name and logo first, then what you do, then how to get in touch. The phone number on the back doors matters most, because that is what drivers behind you can read in traffic. Bold, simple colours that contrast with the van paint read further than thin lines or pale tones.

We plan around the van's windows, handles, ribs and sliding door so lettering does not run across awkward gaps.

Cut vinyl lettering explained

Cut vinyl is plotted from coloured film, weeded and applied in one piece, so only the letters and logo stay on the van and the paintwork shows around them. It is crisp, durable and works best on vans in a solid colour. For photographs or colour gradients, we can add printed and laminated decals to the cut lettering.

Reflective options

Reflective vinyl lights up when headlights hit it, so your name and number stay visible at night and in poor weather. It can be used for the whole layout or just for key details such as the phone number, rear chevrons or an outline around the logo.

Removal and leased vans

Good-quality vinyl can be removed with gentle heat, usually without harming factory paint in good condition. That makes signwriting a good choice for leased vans or vehicles you plan to sell. If you want to switch your branding between vehicles, or keep the van plain at weekends, magnetic signs may suit you better.

Signwriting, magnetic signs or a wrap?

Signwriting is applied lettering and logos on the van's own colour. Magnetic signs can be taken off and moved. Part and full wraps cover larger areas or the whole van in printed film. Our vehicle graphics page explains wraps, and our van signage cost guide covers what affects the price of each option.

Van Signwriting: Questions and Answers

How long does van signwriting take to apply?

Most single-van lettering is fitted in one visit. The time depends on the size of the van and how much detail the design includes, and we confirm it when we book the job.

Will van lettering damage the paintwork?

On factory paint in good condition, vinyl lettering can normally be removed with gentle heat without damage. Resprayed or poor-condition paint carries more risk, and we check the van first.

Can I add a reflective phone number?

Yes. Reflective vinyl can be used for the phone number, the logo or the whole layout so it shows up in headlights at night.
