Metal Letters in Stainless Steel, Brass and Aluminium
Metal letters give a building name, fascia or reception wall a solid, permanent finish. Brushed stainless steel looks crisp and modern, polished brass suits traditional and luxury brands, and painted aluminium can be matched to almost any colour.
We make fabricated and flat-cut metal letters in our own workshop and install them with our own team, inside and out. Every set starts with a free site survey, so letter sizes, fixings and finishes are chosen for your actual wall rather than guessed from a drawing.

Fabricated or flat-cut
Fabricated letters are built up from a face and sides, so they have real depth and can be hollow for lighting. They give strong shadows and read well from a distance on a fascia or high on a building. Flat-cut letters are cut from a single sheet of metal; they are slimmer, often fixed on stand-off pins, and suit reception walls, entrance canopies and plaques where a cleaner, lighter look works better.
Choosing the metal
- Stainless steel: brushed or mirror-polished, with good resistance to weather when the right grade is used.
- Brass: warm and traditional, polished or brushed, and often lacquered to slow tarnishing.
- Bronze-effect finishes: the look of bronze for heritage buildings and premium brands.
- Aluminium: lightweight and paintable in any brand colour, ideal for large letters.
Outdoors and indoors
Outside, letters face rain, pollution and, near the coast, salt in the air. We choose metals and finishes with that in mind and talk you through cleaning, since even good-quality metal looks better when it is wiped down occasionally. Inside, the choice is more about appearance, so mirror-polished and lighter finishes are easier to use.
Height and position change how letters look, so we check viewing distances on the survey and size the letters so the name is clear from the street or the reception door.
Adding light
Fabricated metal letters can be halo-lit, with LEDs inside each letter washing light onto the wall behind, so the metal face stays solid by day and the name stands out at night. Illuminated letters on a building may need advertisement consent, and we can prepare the drawings if they do.

Getting the details right
Metal lettering looks its best when spacing, alignment and fixing are exact. We work from your logo artwork or brand typeface, adjust letter spacing for the size of the wall so the name reads evenly, and produce a full-size paper template for site. The template is taped to the wall, checked for level and position, and used to drill fixing holes accurately so every letter lines up. Stand-off pins can be set to give a deeper or shallower shadow, and the gap can be adjusted to suit uneven brickwork or render. These details make the difference between letters that look fitted and letters that look stuck on.

Metal Letters: Questions and Answers
Are stainless steel or brass letters better outdoors?
Both work outdoors. Stainless steel keeps its look with occasional cleaning and suits modern buildings; brass develops a patina unless it is lacquered and cleaned, which some traditional buildings prefer. We recommend the metal and finish for your location on the survey.
Can metal letters be illuminated?
Yes. Fabricated metal letters can be halo-lit, with LEDs inside each letter lighting the wall behind. Flat-cut letters are too thin to hold lighting but can be lit by separate external lights.
