Church Notice Boards and Church Signs

A church notice board tells the community who you are, when services are held and what is happening this week. Outside the church gate or on the wall by the door, it is often the first point of contact for newcomers, visitors and people looking for help.

We design and make church notice boards and external church signs in our own workshop and install them with our own team.

Types of church notice board

  • Lockable glazed cases for weekly notices, rotas and posters.
  • Combined boards with a permanent printed header and a changeable notice area.
  • Wooden-framed boards that suit traditional churches and churchyards.
  • Aluminium-framed boards for modern church buildings and halls.
  • Post-mounted or wall-mounted options.

What to put on the header

The permanent header usually carries the church name, denomination or parish, and any logo or emblem. Below that, many churches include the times of regular services, the name of the minister or contact, and a website or phone number. Keeping the permanent information simple and readable from the pavement lets the changeable section do the work for weekly news.

Lockable cases

A lockable case keeps notices dry and secure. Cases with a polycarbonate or toughened glazed door protect posters from weather and damage, and a pinboard or magnetic back makes changing notices easy. We size cases to fit the paper sizes you normally use so posters do not have to be trimmed.

Wood or aluminium

Timber frames suit older churches and rural settings, and can be painted in a heritage colour or left with a natural finish. They benefit from occasional maintenance. Aluminium frames are low-maintenance and suit newer buildings and community centres. Both can carry a printed or painted header and be fitted with a lockable case.

External church signs

Beyond the notice board, a church may need an entrance sign, a sign on the hall, directional signs to the car park or parish office, and signs on the gate. Keeping these in the same style gives a welcoming, consistent look. Listed churches and churches in conservation areas may need permission for new signs, so it is worth checking with the relevant authority early.

Our signs for churches and places of worship page covers wider signage needs for churches. Lockable external cases are similar to our menu cases, which can also suit notices.

Planning a new board

Think about who reads your board and where they stand. A board by the pavement should be readable by people walking past, with the church name and service times large enough to see from a few metres away. A board inside the porch can carry more detail for people who have already stopped. Check the ground or wall where the board will be fixed, the height of any hedges or railings, and whether the board needs to be seen from the road. We visit on a free site survey, suggest the best position and size, and show the finished board on a photo-realistic mock-up before it is made. We can also refresh an old board with a new header or glazing.

Church Notice Boards: Questions and Answers

Can church notice boards be lockable?

Yes. Most boards include a lockable glazed case to keep notices dry and secure, with a pinboard or magnetic back for changing them.

Which is better, wood or aluminium?

Wood suits traditional churches and needs occasional maintenance. Aluminium is low-maintenance and suits modern buildings. Both can carry a printed header.

Do we need permission for a new church sign?

Sometimes. Listed churches and those in conservation areas may need consent. Check with the relevant authority before ordering.
