Branding a Fleet: Rolling Out Graphics Across Vans

7 min read

A single branded van is advertising. A fleet of matching vans is a presence — the kind of thing people notice on their street and remember. But the value depends entirely on consistency. Vans that nearly match look worse than vans that do not match at all.

Our blog covers what van signage costs and how wraps compare with lettering. This guide is about the logistics: keeping a fleet consistent from the first vehicle to the last, and for years afterwards.

One master design

Start with a master design that sets the rules: logo position, colours, the size of the phone number and web address, and how much of the vehicle is covered. Everything else is an adaptation of it. Without a master, each van ends up slightly different depending on who drew it and when.

Different models, same look

Most fleets are mixed — a few large vans, some small ones, perhaps a car or two. Each shape needs its own version of the design, with the elements rearranged to fit panels, doors, windows and bodywork lines while keeping the rules. We produce a proof for each model so you can see the whole fleet side by side before anything is printed.

Choose the level of coverage per model: full wraps, half wraps, spot graphics, or lettering. A fleet can mix levels, provided the result still looks like one brand.

Scheduling vans off the road

The practical challenge is that every hour a van spends being branded is an hour it is not working. Plan the rollout in batches around your operation — quieter days, evenings or weekends where possible — and agree the order in advance. Rolling out gradually is normal; the important thing is that the design is fixed before the first van is done.

Materials that age together

If the first van is done in one material and the tenth in another, they will fade differently and stop matching. Our vehicle wraps use premium cast vinyl from leading manufacturers including 3M and Avery, designed to last 5–7 years. Specify the same material and finish — gloss, matt, satin or textured — across the whole fleet.

New vehicles and replacements

Fleets change. Keep the master files and the specification for each model so that a new van added next year matches the ones done this year. When a vehicle is sold or leased back, graphics can be removed, and wraps help protect the original paintwork underneath.

Changing details

Phone numbers, web addresses and services change. Design so that the details most likely to change sit in areas that can be updated without redoing the whole vehicle. It is far cheaper to replace a panel of lettering than a full wrap.

Linking fleet and premises

Vans are often the most visible sign a business has. Keeping them consistent with your premises signage — same logo, same colours — reinforces both. If you are also rolling out signs across several sites, our multi-site rollout guide covers the premises side.

Why consistency pays

Vehicle graphics work as mobile advertising, generating impressions wherever the vans go. A fleet multiplies that — but only if people recognise each van as belonging to the same business. A customer who sees three matching vans in a week remembers the name; a customer who sees three slightly different vans may not connect them at all.

That is why the master design, the material specification and the records of each model matter more than any single van. They are what keep the fleet looking like one brand as vehicles come and go over the years.

If you are starting with a few vans and expect to grow, set the rules now. It costs nothing extra and saves redesigning later.
